Ahhhhhh, Chapter 8. Guess what that means? It means Dong Zhuo has ruled the Empire with an iron fist for 6 chapters now. Military might has proven useless against this man, because he has plenty of troops, the Emperor under his thumb, and the mightiest warrior in the land calling him "Dad".
And now, it is beginning to occur to the enemies of Dong Zhuo that there can be no hope as long as Dong Zhuo and Lu Bu are so closely bound together. And what does it take to topple a man whom thousands upon thousands of soldiers, and some of the mightiest heroes of the land, couldn't destroy? The answer is: A woman.
Not just any woman, though. Diao Chan was reputed to be very, very beautiful. In fact, despite the total lack of any historical evidence confirming her very existence, Diao Chan remains to this day of the "Four Beauties of Chinese History", and the only one of them who seems to have been fictional.
The Alleged Diao Chan, whom the reader has to accept as real, at least as a literary device, was as I said very beautiful, and was described in the novel as being pretty much the perfect woman, at least according to the standards of the day. I tend to refer to her as the "Chinese Helen of Troy", and whether she existed or not, she certainly seems to make quite a showing for herself in the next few chapters, as does Wang Yun, whose plot to drive a wedge between Dong Zhuo and Lu Bu succeeds where the Coalition against Dong Zhuo failed miserably.
So sit back, and watch the intrigue unfold. Enjoy this, the eighth chapter in the Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Oh, and one other thing. I apologize in advance for the fact that my Diaochan voice sounds a lot like Smurfette. I assure you, the resemlance is purely an unfortunate coincidence...
